SAN JOSE-City officials have greenlighted a student apartment proposal for Downtown San Jose, and Symphony Development of Los Angeles is gearing up for a June groundbreaking on the project.

Symphony will build 119 market-rate apartments with San Jose State University students in mind, according to a recent article in the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The Journal says the developer's capital partner called it a $40 million project.

Symphony plans to construct five stories of apartments over two stories of garage on a 1.09-acre site at 51 N. Sixth Strreet, near City Hall.

Symphony works in student housing, market-rate multifamily, mixed use and retail, and one of West 27th Place, a 161-unit, 150,0000-square-foot mixed-use next to the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles.
