SHADY GROVE, MD-Montgomery County has decided to convert its first and largest biotech incubator here into a new cybersecurity center. The decision will mean about 38 biotech start-up firms will have to find a new home.
The 60,000-square-foot William Hanna Center for Innovation at Shady Grove, also known as the Shady Grove Innovation Center at 9700 Great Seneca Highway has been operating since 1999. The county says it will help the fledgling biotech companies find new space, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
For months county officials have been making preparations to repurpose the center for use by the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a national cybersecurity center of excellence.
The county and state are on the verge of executing an agreement with the federal agency, says Steve Silverman, director of the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
