SAYERVILLE, NJ-The state of New Jersey has offered to purchase 272 homes here and in flood prone South River.
Thus far, 125 property owners have taken the state up on the offer, according to the Associated Press. A total of 22 sales transactions have closed.
In total, the state intends to acquire 1,300 homes at the value the homes had prior to Superstorm Sandy. The state's Blue Access program, which utilizes state and federal funds to acquire homes in flood prone areas, intends to use a subsequent round of funding to purchase 119 homes in flood prone sections of Woodbridge, East Brunswick, and Newark, and other properties in the Passaic River Basin.
