WASHINGTON, DC-Brookfield Office Properties says it plans to begin work on the redevelopment of 2001 M St. NW here in March in order to secure tenancies at the nine-story building.
The redevelopment project will be done on a speculative basis and will be completed in early 2016, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The project will entail replacing the building's existing granite-and-brick facade with a new glass facade. Brookfield is planning to demolish the south side of the building, extend it to the corner of 20th and M streets, and add another floor. That capital improvement work will increase the building's size by approximately 60,000 square feet.
"It's not a bad building as is, the location is a good location, but it is much more commodity space and there's a lot of commodity space on the market right now," says Greg Meyer, senior vice president of Brookfield's D.C. region. "It will be a brand new, trophy-quality, glass-facade building." See story in the Washington Business Journal.
