WASHINGTON, DC-Locally-based architectural firm BBGM, which is leading the renovation project at the storied Watergate Hotel, says that work could begin in March.

Bahram Kamali, an architect BBGM, says the renovation will increase the number of rooms at the Watergate from 251 to 348. Owner New York City-based Euro Capital Properties Inc. has decided to operate it as an independent hotel, according to the Washington Business Journal. The hotel has been closed since 2007. Euro Capital acquired the property for $45 million.

Other changes planned for the Watergate include: a renovated lobby with a bar and lounge, a specialty restaurant, and a rooftop bar with a reflecting pool. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
