ALEXANDRIA, VA-The planned redevelopment of Penn Daw Plaza here by Combined Properties into a major mixed-use project has secured final regulatory approval.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously endorsed the project and the rezoning of the 10-acre shopping center at North Kings Highway and Poag St. earlier this week, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The project, which will not start construction until the second quarter of 2015 due to tenancies at the existing Penn Daw shopping center will involve the construction of 610,544 total square feet, including 400 apartments, 41 townhomes and between 30,000 and 45,500 square feet of retail space. Combined Properties has promised local officials to attempt to lease part of the retail space to a grocer. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
