NEW YORK CITY-The selection of Brooklyn Councilman David Greenfield as chairman of the influential Land Use Committee by City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito is being viewed as a positive development for builders and real estate interests in the city.
While developers are still apprehensive about calls by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Council Speaker Mark-Viverito for sweeping changes to the city's development policies, Greenfield is being viewed in a positive light by the business community.
Steven Spinola, president of the Real Estate Board of New York, said he believes Councilman Greenfield will be “diligent and fair” in chairing the Land Use Committee, according to Crain's New York Business.
Greenfield, a Georgetown Law School graduate, represents a heavily Orthodox Jewish district in Brooklyn. Other key committee appointments include Queens Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras, who will chair the Finance Committee, and Manhattan Councilman Daniel Garodnick, who will chair the council's economic development panel.
