CHARLOTTE-A report commissioned by Charlotte Center City Partners says that the city could use more retail development.
Specifically, the report states that the city has untapped retail development potential in the uptown and South End areas, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
The study suggests that the city could support an additional 555,000 square feet of retail that could include specialty and service shops, urban street retail and independently-operated grocery stores. Michael Smith, president and CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners, presented the study results to Charlotte City Council members on Monday evening and requested the council adopt retail as a shared priority.
“We have an untapped market—we are not currently meeting our potential,” Smith said. See story in the Charlotte Business Journal.
