PHILADELPHIA-City and state officials presided over the groundbreaking on Wednesday of the Stephen Klein Wellness Center in North Philadelphia.

The $15-million project will be built near 21st Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue in a neighborhood of blighted buildings and few medical resources, according to the Inquirer. The center is expected to open in 2015.

Project HOME will manage the nearly 29,000-square-foot center. The facility will also include a pharmacy and YMCA-managed fitness area. Among those on hand for the groundbreaking included Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.

The new health care center project is the result of a collaboration between the city, Project HOME, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, and Phillies partners Leigh and John Middleton, among others. See story in the Inquirer.
