PITTSBURGH-A development team is poised to acquire the Alleghany County Health Department property in the Oakland district and move forward with a $30-million plan to develop an apartment building and office building there.

The sale of the property to MWK Forbes LLC is scheduled to close on Feb. 28 with MWK Forbes paying $4.9 million for the property. MWK Forbes had originally wanted to build a hotel at the property, but has switched to residential and office uses for the site, according to the Pittsburgh Business Journal.

Gary Wilson, who represents the development team that includes the Massaro family and architect Tasso Katselas, says, “We've got so much demand from the apartment side of things that we're focusing on that where we originally intended to do the hotel.”

The development plan calls for demolishing the existing 48,000-square-foot health department building on Forbes Avenue in order to build a new 120,000-square-foot office building, with the option to still develop a hotel on site depending on demand. There will also be a new 120-160-unit apartment building developed at the site. See story in the Pittsburgh Business Journal.
