KINSTON, NC-The state of North Carolina's bid to land Boeing's 777X aircraft manufacturing plant here has been valued as high as $2.5 billion.
Boeing recently decided it would house the plant in the state of Washington. However, the state made a concerted effort to land the Boeing plant and submitted offers late last year for sites in Kinston, Greensboro and Charlotte. The project, dubbed "Project New Horizon," was expected to create 8,500 jobs, according to the Triangle Business Journal.
North Carolina's final offer to the company was $683 million if it chose Kinston. Combined with an estimated $1.84 billion state aerospace manufacturing tax credit that would have required legislative approval, the total incentive package if Boeing chose the Global TransPark in Kinston could have approved $2.5 billion.
