CHICAGO-Locally-based developer Steve Fifield hopes to build a 31-story apartment tower in River North but will need a zone change to break ground on the venture.

Fifield is looking to build the 333-unit project near the former Cabrini-Green housing development property, according to Crain's Chicago Business. The project is pegged to cost approximately $140 million. Construction could begin in the fourth quarter of this year and be completed by early 2017.

“I've been wanting to get a River North site for some time,” says Fifield. “I'm particularly enamored with the western area of River North, because if you draw an arrow of where things are moving, we feel that's where the technology companies are going to be.”

The tower is planned along the east side of the two-story, 67,000-square-foot building occupied by Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. Fifield will acquire the project site from a venture of Marc Realty LLC principal Gerald Nudo, contingent on the project receiving approvals from the city. See story in Crain's Chicago Business.
