TRENTON, NJ-The fair housing group Fair Share Housing Center slammed the Christie administration for missing the court-imposed deadline yesterday to establish new affordable housing rules for the state.

In September, the Supreme Court ruled in a 3-2 vote that the state's affordable housing rules did not go far enough to incentivize housing options for low- and moderate-income groups and imposed a deadline to establish new rules by Wednesday, Feb. 26. Gov. Chris Christie tried to disband the Counsel on Affordable Housing, which was created by the state legislature in response to a previous court decision. The Supreme Court ruled Gov. Christie could not disband the agency, according to The Record.

“The Christie Administration is blocking thousands of new homes from moving forward, which is especially critical after Hurricane Sandy destroyed so many houses and made housing even more expensive in New Jersey,” states Fair Share Housing Center's Associate Director Kevin Walsh.

The Fair Share Housing Center says it is going back to court to try and compel the Council on Affordable Housing to develop the rules. See story in The Record.
