WOOD-RIDGE, NJ—Somerset Development, the lead developer of the Wesmont Station redevelopment project here, reports it has broken ground on a new train station deemed critical to the massive mixed-use project.
The Lakewood, NJ-based developer and NJ Transit broke ground on the train station project on Tuesday. When completed, the new train station will connect with the Bergen County Line and provide commuter access to Manhattan via Hoboken and Secaucus Junction. The facility is expected to generate approximately 800 daily trips when it opens in the fall of 2015, according to NJBiz.
“The train station is the heart of this project, and today's groundbreaking brings us another step closer to the realization of our vision for Wesmont Station,” Somerset Development President Ralph Zucker said in a prepared statement.
The redevelopment of the former Curtiss-Wright aircraft plant at full build-out will involve the development of approximately 1,200 homes and commercial space. See story in NJBiz.
