SPARKS, MD—Spice and flavorings manufacturer McCormick & Co. says it is studying a possible relocation of its corporate headquarters here to other sites in Maryland or perhaps to southern Pennsylvania.

Jim Lynn, a company spokesman, said the company will conduct a search of sites in Maryland or Pennsylvania close to where its workforce resides. A high number of McCormick workers live in Baltimore County and southern Pennsylvania, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"It's about consolidating the administrative buildings in Hunt Valley," Lynn says. "We're in the early stages of a long-term, multiyear project...to develop a more effective workplace. Our primary objectives are to increase employee collaboration, engagement and efficiency in a more open and centralized location."

The company will consider new, renovated or existing space. The company employs approximatelly 2,400 people in Maryland. Its administrative offices with about 800 employees are located in four buildings, including the headquarters at 18 Loveton Circle and three buildings on Schilling Circle in Hunt Valley.

McCormick has not as yet contacted officials with the state of Pennsylvania regarding possible sites and incentives. Steve Kratz, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, says, "Certainly, we did see that they are potentially looking at new sites. If they are seriously looking at Pennsylvania, we're certainly open to having those conversations and really would welcome them to Pennsylvania." See story in the Baltimore Sun.
