JERSEY CITY, NJ— Venture capitalist Paul Fireman, chairman of Fireman Capital Partners of Boston, has met with state lawmakers and city officials about a plan to build a 95-story multi-billion dollar casino and hotel here.
Fireman, former CEO of Reebok, has met with several state lawmakers about his $4.6-bilion project that would feature a 107,500-seat motor sports stadium, the largest Ferris wheel in the world and residences, according to the Star-Ledger.
"I'm excited about the potential for a world-class facility that includes a casino, hotel and convention center as well as the largest Ferris wheel in the world all located next to the best park in New Jersey," Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says of the mega-casino project. "I still need more information regarding the racetrack to be confident it will not harm Liberty State Park. This development would create 25,000 jobs and over $5 billion of investment, which would be one of the largest construction projects in the United States."
The project would reportedly be built adjacent to the Liberty National Golf Course, which Fireman developed in 2006.
State Sen. Raymond Lesniak, who met with Fireman about the casino venture, says, "It's huge. It has the wow factor ... It will blow away Macau as a destination place for gaming." Fireman did not comment on the press report. See story in the Star-Ledger.
