ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—Donald Trump, the day Trump Plaza ownership issued layoff notices to 1,600 of its workers, says that he feels for the resort community he helped build.

The New York City-based developer says that the oversaturation of gaming facilities in Atlantic City and the surrounding area will lead to more closings in other places, including the Philadelphia area, according to The Inquirer.

"I'm very sad for Atlantic City. I spent many years there, as you know," he says. "But I have not been involved for many years. I have nothing to do (with Trump Plaza's closing). Different people own it."

At the beginning of this year, there were 12 Atlantic City casinos. However, the Atlantic Club closed in January, and the Revel and Showboat have threatened to close by the end of the summer if they do not find buyers. The warning notice issued by Trump Plaza states the casino would close on Sept. 16.

In connection with the casino closings along the Atlantic City Boardwalk, Trump says, "Atlantic City is getting clobbered. Seventy-five percent of the casinos in Atlantic City are bankrupt or going through bankruptcy. The other 25% are on respirator. This is going to happen in [the Philadelphia area] and Pennsylvania, too, you watch.” See story in The Inquirer.
