TULSA--Home furnishings retailer West Elm is opening a new retail store in Tulsa, Okla. Located in the outdoor shopping complex Utica Square, the 10,000-square-foot-plus store will be the second location in Oklahoma for the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based brand. (The other is in Oklahoma City.) It is set to open next Thursday, Aug. 28.

Designed to reflect the cultural and architectural heritage of Tulsa, it will feature a curated selection of products made in the state, as part of West Elm's LOCAL initiative. A limited edition Tulsa tote bag, designed by local letterpress studio Ruff House Art, will be given away to the first 300 shoppers with a $50 minimum purchase.

“We're actively seeking locations where we can make the biggest impact by supporting local makers and creating jobs in our stores,” said West Elm president Jim Brett.

West Elm's LOCAL initiative, launched this year, taps into local entrepreneurship by encouraging West Elm employees to find area “makers and designers,” building a creative network that celebrates craftspeople and differentiates the brand with regional assortments.

Utica Square, located at E. 21st St at S. Utica Ave. in Tulsa's midtown district, features anchors Saks Fifth Avenue and Tulsa standby Miss Jackson's as well as numerous upscale stores from Anthropologie to Restoration Hardware.
