ST. HELENA, CA—Napa Valley vintner Carl Doumani hopes to build an 84-room hotel on his property at the corner of Highway 29 and Mills Lane.

The resort would feature a gym, spa, swimming pool and restaurant, with architecture inspired by the town's old farm houses. This according to a local news report.

According to preliminary estimates, the hotel could generate between $1.9 million and $2.2 million in hotel taxes for the city.

Instead of offering a fully-designed project, Doumani is asking the city planning commission and city council for feedback on the concept. If their comments are positive, he'll design the project, conduct environmental studies and file a formal application.

Doumani had previously sought to build an office complex on the 10-acre site, proposing up to 10,000 square feet of office space in 2010. The city council criticized the project's size and never approved it, but indicated they might be more open to a hotel.
