BALTIMORE—A group of four development firms called the New Old Town Team is looking to move forward with their ambitious plan to redevelop the shuttered Old Town Mall.
The project site includes the former mall property as well as nearly eight acres the city has added. The New Old Town Team consists of Beatty Development Group, Henson Development Co., Kevin Johnson's Commercial Group and Philadelphia-based Mission First Housing Group, according to the Baltimore Sun.
The team's plan to build a mixed-income community with rental and for-sale homes and a grocery store will now be under a six-month review by the Baltimore Development Corp., which issued proposals for the publicly owned site in April. The plan also calls for the development of a park and community center on roughly 16 acres in East Baltimore.
The New Old Town Team hopes the project can link Johns Hopkins Hospital, downtown, and Fells and Harbor Points, according to Dan Henson, president of Henson Development.
"We want to be sure we are moving forward with a complete project that can actually be done and that captures the needs and wants of the immediate community, as well as the city," says Kimberly Clark, BDC's executive vice president. "It's a really strong team and we have a lot of faith in them." See story in the Baltimore Sun.
