We all know the routine in today's business environment. It's all instant response all the time, whether it be email, text message or twitter. 24/7 means just that: available minute-by-minute as the emails and text messages pile up.
For fun, I was on a NYC subway car last evening and attempted to estimate what percentage of the rush-hour riders were online now that you can connect while scrunched on a subway car. The answer is about 75%. We are online all day, every day. What a grind!
Then today I saw an article in the Wall Street Journal about a guy who is CEO of a concrete cutting company who gets stressed because of his “daily grind.” His “daily grind” is concrete, but never mind, it's still the same. Stress from the job, whatever you do, takes its toll. Our concrete CEO resolves his stress by rediscovering an activity that he enjoyed as a teenager. No, not dating, but climbing mountains.
Take a cue from the concrete guy and figure out what you like to do, or used to do, that made you happy and pursue it. It's a nice respite from the daily grind.
