BALTIMORE—Sparrows Point Terminal LLC has tapped two companies to help it move forward with its planned redevelopment of the 3,100-acre Sparrows Point Terminal property: it has named JLL as exclusive real estate services provider for the project and Parsons Brinckerhoff will oversee master planning at Sparrows Point.

The moves come as the company is expected to announce a large lease transaction in the coming weeks -- possibly with FedEx, at least given the company's earlier interest in the project.

All eyes have been on Sparrows Point since its acquisition by the LLC, which is a joint venture between Redwood Capital Investments and Hilco Real Estate.

Formerly a Bethlehem Steel manufacturing plant, Sparrows Point Terminal LLC has been gearing up for a major repositioning and reuse of the project, including an extensive environmental cleanup.

The endgame of these efforts will be a transportation, manufacturing and logistics hub.

The selection of JLL and Parsons Brinckerhoff is a significant step toward that goal, said Mike Pedone, COO of Sparrows Point Terminal, in a prepared statement. "We are in the process of making important site upgrades that will make Sparrows Point even more attractive to potential companies seeking to locate operations here."

One of those companies might be FedEx, which filed an application with Baltimore County's Development Review Committee to open a distribution hub at the facility.

The project features a deep-water port, including a turning basin and 1,150-foot pier to accommodate heavy commodities and a short-line railroad.

"The site promises to be one of the most prominent and largest multi-modal logistics park developments ever constructed," said Mark Levy, JLL Managing Director, in a prepared statement.

Ben Meisels, Todd Hughes, Ryan Burrows, Greg Ferraro and Erin Corrie are also on JLL's project leasing team.
