HONOLULU, HI—R.D. Olson Development's plan to erect a 150-room Marriott Residence Inn in Kapolei, West Oahu has been shelved, according to a report in Pacific Business News.

An executive with the land owner, The James Campbell Co., told the media outlet that R.D. Olson is no longer under contract to buy the 3.5-acre site. The plan had called for the California-based company to develop, own and operate the Marriott Residence Inn.

Currently, there are no hotels in Kapolei, although Florida-based developer DeBartolo Development plans to build two, the article stated.

R.D. Olson had previously developed Maui's first Courtyard by Marriott hotel, which opened about two years ago near the Kahului Airport.

It is also building a 200-room hotel in Maui's Wailea resort area, which will carry the Marriott brand, and be more affordable than the other luxury properties in the area.
