NEW YORK CITY—Although budget negotiations kept US Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer in Washington DC the night of the Real Estate Board of New York's 122nd annual banquet and awards presentation, the New York senator was honored with the John E. Zuccotti Public Service Award. REBNY's new chair, William C. Rudin, said the senator's tireless commitment to New York captured the spirit of the award. Sen. Schumer responded: "Receiving the John E. Zuccotti Public Service Award, named after a consummate New Yorker who was such a strong and grateful advocate for our city, is an honor. Fighting for New York is in my bones and I will always work to keep the cranes rising, hardhats working and economy humming; that is the foundation of our great city." As reported in GlobeSt.com, approximately 2,000 guests attended the event on Jan. 18. As part of its brief ceremony, REBNY honored its outgoing chairman, Rob Speyer, president and CEO of Tishman Speyer, who received the Harry B. Helmsley Distinguished New Yorker Award. Other real estate industry professionals receiving honors that evening included Richard LeFrak, chairman and CEO of LeFrak; Elizabeth Stribling, chairman of Stribling & Associates; Gene Boniberger, senior VP and director of building operations for Rudin Management Company; Joanne Podell, executive vice chairman at Cushman & Wakefield; and Ron Lo Russo, president of Cushman & Wakefield's Agency Consultancy Group. The photo slideshow captures more of the evening where New York's CRE professionals, political leaders, and other community members socialized, networked and celebrated at the Hilton Midtown hotel.
