BEDMINSTER, NJ—Real estate veteran Tom Walsh has been hired by Advance Realty Investors as its managing director of development and construction solutions.

Walsh most recently served as principal and managing director of project management for Avison Young’s New Jersey, New York and Boston offices.

A 40-year veteran of the New York-New Jersey commercial real estate industry, Walsh will team up with Advance Realty principal and managing director Daniel Cocoziello to oversee all aspects of development, renovations and construction on Advance’s diversified portfolio, which includes several ongoing multifamily, industrial, office and mixed-use projects.

“We’re extremely excited to work alongside Tom, who is among the most respected professionals in the commercial real estate industry,” Cocoziello says. “His tremendous expertise will be an invaluable asset as we continue to grow and execute our project pipeline throughout the Northeast.”

In overseeing project management, development management and construction services for Avison Young, Walsh grew the company’s three offices to more than 60 employees and completed more than 150 projects with an aggregate construction value in excess of $300 million annually. Prior to Avison Young, Walsh was a partner and managing director of The Walsh Co., which was acquired by Avison Young in 2012.

“Tom is an esteemed commercial real executive with a long track record of innovation and success,” says Peter J. Cocoziello, founder and CEO of Advance Realty Investors. “He is widely known throughout the region’s commercial real estate industry for his vast experience and unique approach to problem-solving, regardless of what phase a project is in, or what kind of product type is being constructed. His sterling reputation built over four decades speaks for itself.”

Earlier in his career, Walsh served as principal at Normandy Real Estate Partners, as well as founder and president of The Gale Construction Co.

In his time in the real estate industry, he has managed, constructed and developed more than 50 million square feet of product—including a 270,000-square-foot global headquarters for Commvault; a 400,000-square-foot regional headquarters for State Farm Automobile Insurance and the development of Park Avenue at Morris County, a 1-million-square-foot office park in Florham Park, NJ.
