SIOR Appoints New CEO

Industry veteran, Robert Thornburgh joins the organization from Kidder Mathews, where he previously served as a shareholder and regional president of brokerage.

WASHINGTON DC – Society of Industrial and Office Realtors has named Robert Thornburgh as its new CEO.

Thornburgh holds more than 25 years of industry experience, with a focus on integrity and transformational, service-oriented leadership.

Through his long-standing commitment to SIOR, Thornburgh has previously served as SIOR global president and has additionally served on the SIOR board of directors.

Based in Los Angeles, Thornburgh joins SOIR from Kidder Mathews, where he served as a regional president of brokerage and a shareholder for numerous years.  

“It is with immense pleasure that I accept the role of SIOR CEO,” states Thornburgh. “Being an SIOR has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, so I am thrilled to have this unique opportunity to contribute in forward-thinking ways to this amazing organization and the broader commercial real estate industry that I care so deeply about.”

Thornburgh originally commenced his commercial real estate career in the 1990’s with the investment company, R3 Investment Group, which he owns to this day. He later served as a the CEO of the Los Angeles real estate firm, Heger Industrial, up until the company’s merger with Kidder Mathews in 2017. As part of the merger, Thornburgh joined Kidder Mathews’ executive leadership team, where he assisted in expanding the firm’s West Coast presence.

Thornburgh holds the four commercial real estate designations of SIOR, CCIM, CPM and FRICS. He has been widely recognized throughout the industry for his commitment to innovation and his passion for helping others succeed. Thornburgh was previously recognized by GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum as one of CRE’s Best Bosses of 2020.

The executive recruiting firm, Korn Ferry and a SIOR CEO selection committee, led by Craig Meyer, vetted numerous candidates for the CEO position.

The appointment of Thornburgh as CEO, coincides with SIOR’s 80th anniversary, as the organization commemorates the designation for industrial and office professionals. Established in 1941, the organization now spans 48 chapters worldwide; comprising more than 3,400 members across 42 countries.
