WASHINGTON, DC-One Metro Center, a new 416,000-sf corner office building, welcomes APCO Worldwide Inc. to its tenant roster. The global communication consultancy company will relocate from its current Downtown headquarters to a 62,000-sf space at the class A site.
ROSSLYN, VA-Work gets under way on WRIT Rosslyn Center, a 224-unit apartment complex being developed by Washington Real Estate Investment Trust. The residential project, scheduled for completion in fall 2006, will consist of two buildings with ground-level retail and underground parking.
COLLEGE PARK, MD-In a recent $22.3 million deal, Government Properties Trust Inc. acquires the US Food and Drug Administration building, which just opened its doors for occupancy on September 1. The FDA has a lease long-term on about 64,000 sf of the 80,000-sf building.
BALTIMORE-The 750,000-sf mixed-use development known as Brewers Hill secures a commitment from a new tenant, MetLife Inc., which will relocate two offices in surrounding areas to a 20,000-sf space. The insurance company expects to be settled into its new digs by year's end.
ARLINGTON, VA-Public television company PBS makes arrangements to leave its home in Alexandria for a customized 110,000-sf space at 2100 Crystal Dr. in Crystal City. After significant renovations, the public television company will relocate its headquarters to the 276,000-sf building in early 2006.
FALLS CHURCH, VA-Two years in the making, the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute opens its doors after a $152-million development process. The 410,000-sf center features 156 beds and carries the distinction of being the Metropolitan Washington, DC area's first medical facility devoted solely to cardiac care.
ARLINGTON, VA-The Gallery at Virginia Square comes under new ownership in a recent $60-million transaction between seller DEL/Virginia Square LLC and the new owner, Archstone-Smith. Developed in 2002, the 231-unit luxury multifamily property also contains 7,150 sf of ground-level retail space.
WASHINGTON, DC-The US Department of Transportation headquarters building at 400 7th St. will undergo a $150-million upgrade, says property owner David Nassif Associates. The 1.3-million-sf property will be vacated by the DOT when its new home in the Southeast Federal Center on M Street reaches completion in 2006.
WASHINGTON, DC-Chicago-headquartered law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP increases its presence at 1301 K St. by restructuring its lease and bringing its total occupancy to 108,000 sf from 80,000 sf. The firm is now the lead tenant at the building.
WASHINGTON, DC-Leaving the business of real estate brokering to the seasoned professionals, the US General Services Administration's Public Buildings Service awards a vast contract to real estate services firms Jones Lang LaSalle Americas Inc., Studley, the Staubach Co. and Trammell Crow Co. The firms will handle leasing related activities for the GSA's 155 million sf of leased office space.
