FRAMINGHAM, MA-Genzyme Corp acquires a protein manufacturing facility in Belgium, and decides to suspend development of a protein production plant here near the company's campus. The Belgium-based facility is to become the company's second major protein plant.

MINNEAPOLIS-Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton's challenger says she has spent too much on Downtown development and has not created enough new affordable housing. She claims 1,350 units have been built in the last two years.

SUNNYVALE-Hyseq has signed a long-term lease with the Irvine Co. for 140,000 sf of R&D space at 985 Almador Avenue, adjacent the company's existing headquarters.

PORTLAND-William Emery, owner of the Oregon Trail Building at Southwest Fifth Avenue and Stark Street in Portland, has reduced energy costs by making several improvements to the building.
