MILFORD, MI – Judge Barry Howard of the Oakland County Circuit Court recently dismissed a lawsuit by a Milford Village activist group to halt the construction of a 30,000-sf YMCA recreation center. The group, Milford Citizens for Public Responsibility, had claimed that the Village Council did not go out for bids before contracting to sell 35 acres of Hubbell Pond Park to the YMCA. The association plans to build a $4.3 million recreation facility on the property.

Howard ruled that a feasibility study, completed five years ago, that identified the YMCA development as the sole desire of the council was enough of a sign of waiving bids. The council’s intent was inherent in the adoption of the study, Howard said.

The village can now go forward with the sale of the property, which it bought for about $6,000 an acre from the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. The Village is selling the property for what it was purchased.
