Wolfe Nursery Selling Merchandise, Closing Stores

SAN ANTONIO-A Chicago-based disposition company is helping Wolfe Nursery sell off merchandise in 11 South and Central Texas stores. San Antonio-based Wolfe has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The US Bankruptcy Court handling the Wolfe case named Hilco Merchant Resources as the consultant to assist in the sales, which will culminate in the closing of all Wolfe stores. Wolfe filed bankruptcy early in 2002 citing competition, drought-related water restrictions, recession and the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Wolfe is closing seven stores in San Antonio and one each in Austin, Round Rock, Sunset Valley and Universal City. The company closed about eight stores when it filed for bankruptcy protection. A deal to sell the company to Calloway’s Nursery Inc. of Fort Worth fell through several years ago.

Hilco has been assisting in liquidations for more than 25 years and has disposed of more than $25 billion of retail inventories. Hilco Merchant Resources is part of Hilco Trading Co.
