$26M Library Gets Under Way Next Month

ROCKVILLE, MD-Work on the new Rockville Library is on target to get under way with a groundbreaking ceremony in January. The new 101,000-sf, facility will be a centerpiece of the Rockville Town Center, a new mixed-use development currently under construction. Forrester Construction Co. is on board to oversee the building of the new library, which is expected to open its doors to readers in the summer of 2006.

The county will spend $26 million to complete the project. Upon its completion, Rockville Library will be the largest library in the county.

A three-story structure designed by Grimm+Parker on Beall Ave., Rockville Library will hold 200,000 volumes, as well as administrative office space, a homework center with multimedia equipment and several meeting rooms. The Literacy Council, the Office of Human Rights and the Office of Geographic Information Services will also have space in the building.
