Equis Brings on Industry Veteran

NEW YORK CITY-Industry veteran James S. Wassel has joined Chicago-based Equis Corp. as senior vice president-eastern region. In this newly created position, he will oversee the firm’s operations in eight US markets.

Based here, Wassel will help to expand the company’s presence on the east coast, according to an Equis spokesperson. He will particularly focus on talent base growth and manage the financial performance of offices in Boston, New York City, Iselin, NJ, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Charlotte, Atlanta and Tampa. He will report to Michael Sheinkop, Equis executive vice president and head of brokerage operations in the East and Midwest US. Sheinkop says Wassel will an “immediate impact” on business and staff development and will “drive our growth strategy throughout our east coast offices.”

Most recently, Wassel served as senior operating executive at Cushman & Wakefield’s New York City office, leading brokerage operations, recruiting and business development. At Jones Lang Wootten, he oversaw a $2-billion pension fund portfolio and was president/COO of JLW Management Group. At the Rouse Co., he managed high-profile assets nationwide, including South Street Seaport in New York and Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston. Wassel says key factors in taking his new role included Equis’ client base, entrepreneurial culture and talent base.
