Purchased in 1992 by a private investment group, the building is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has operated as a boutique hotel and short-term rental for more than 90 years.
The Lake Point Tower Condominium Association Board in a unanimous vote, as well as a supermajority of unit owners, recently adopted two amendments to prevent the building from being changed back into apartments.
The facility in Channahon will employ approximately 500 new full-time workers. The Seattle-based e-commerce giant currently has a workforce of approximately 11,000 in Illinois.
