WASHINGTON, DC—A consortium led by the National CapitalPlanning Commission is looking at ways to revive thePennsylvania Ave. area of the district.

The newly launched program entitled the “PennsylvaniaAvenue Initiative” also includes theDistrict, the General ServicesAdministration and the National ParkService, according to the Washington Post. A publicworkshop has been planned for July 23.

Among the issues facing Pennsylvania Avenue is that federalbuildings along the southern side of the avenue are bound bysecurity requirements, which thwart retail and sidewalk cafes thatpopulate many other sections of the district.
