ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—Beginning next week an estimated 6,000 casinoworkers are expected to file for unemployment insurance inconnection with the closures of the Showboat CasinoHotel and Revel this weekend andTrump Plaza on Sept. 16.

With the closing earlier this year of the Atlantic Club, thisbeachside resort has hemorrhaged more than 8,000 casino-relatedpositions or a quarter of its overall workforce.

Local 54 of Unite-HERE, the main casino worker'union, is launching a resource center next week to help ex-casinoworkers file for unemployment, register for health insurance, andget information on food stamps and other assistance, according tothe Associated Press.
