PHILADELPHIA—Vice President Joe Biden visitedthe Port of Philadelphia on Thursday and tooka tour on a dredging barge on the Delaware River to promote theongoing project to deepen the Delaware River.

Biden, U.S. Sen. Robert Casey, Rep.Robert Brady, and Rep. Chaka Fattah wereled on a tour of the barge by Brian Puckett,project manager for the Great Lakes Dredging and DockCo., according to the Inquirer.

Biden promoted the Delaware River dredging project, which whencompleted will deepen about 100 miles of the river between theDelaware Bay and Philadelphia. The project was started in 2010 andshould be finished in 2017, according to Ed Voigt,spokesperson for the Army Corps of Engineers. Hesays the project will allow larger container ships to travel theriver.
