Acciona bought the 36-acre property in 2006, and has geared up now to start the turbine construction. The site also includes a 100,000-sf exterior storage area for the machines, and Ryan will soon start work on another 30,000-sf building for more manufacturing space. "They have about 10 workstations inside where they do the manufacturing, and they don't store stuff long," says Jim Kiesey with Ryan. "They ship very soon after the turbines are completed, to save space, and because of the demand." The buildings are mostly heavy manufacturing facilities, with cranes that can lift up to 90 tons.

Kiesey tells GlobeSt.com that Iowa is becoming the leader in wind turbine technology firms. "The governor is behind the push in the state, with incentives for the construction and for use of the turbines for energy. There's plants going up all over, with developments in Cedar Rapids, southeastern Iowa, all over," he says.
