NEW YORK CITY-Blame for this month’s near government shutdown is, for the most part, spread evenly among Democrats and Republicans, a GlobeSt.com poll shows.

Last week readers were asked “Who’s responsible for the near government shutdown?” Fourty-four percent blamed both parties, 23% blamed the Republicans, 29% blamed the Democrats, and 4% indicated that the issue transcended partisan bickering.

The results remind Bob White, president and founder of Real Capital Analytics, of a report that he saw this past weekend on sagging Congressional approval ratings. Gallup numbers released last week put Congressional job approval at 17%, not far off its all-time low of 13% from December 2010.

“I think this definitely reflects that and it’s interesting that the frustration’s not really a partisan thing,” White tells GlobeSt.com. “There is certainly a lot concerning real estate and the real estate industry that is being discussed on Capitol Hill now but I just think this is a general commentary of overall frustration.”

Despite the political implications of changes affecting real estate transactions that would be implemented by proposed new Financial Accounting Standards Board rules and the discussions referenced by White, others agree that the poll’s results show a generalized, systemic frustration.

“I tend to feel that there is a lot of distaste and disgust with the whole governmental process these days,” says Richard T. Anderson, president of the New York Building Congress. “You don’t tend to pay as much attention to the details when you’re just fed up with everything.” Anderson added the results perhaps simply reflected the political affiliations and beliefs of respondents. “What weighs on people’s opinions is who they started out favoring.”
