PHILADELPHIA-The Philadelphia City Planning Commission has recommended the approval of a number of zoning variances for a mixed-use project on 22nd and Spring Garden Streets.

The project to be built by developer Neal Rodin calls for a new 63,000-square-foot Whole Foods grocery store, 293 apartments, and a restaurant, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. The planning commission endorsed the zoning variances at a session on Tuesday afternoon.

The project at 501 N. 22nd St., if approved, would entail the demolition of Best Western hotel that currently operates on the site. The plan will now go before zoning board on Aug. 28. See story in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
