HAGERSTOWN, MD-Hagerstown Mayor David S. Gysberts says he plans to build a new minor league baseball stadium here whether the Hagerstown Suns remain here or opt to move south to play in Fredericksburg, VA.
“We will build a stadium for a team that wants to be here,” the mayor said. “It's really as simple as that. (Suns majority owner) Bruce Quinn is the partner that we have right now.”
Hagerstown officials plan are scheduled to meet with the Hagerstown Suns owner in closed session on Friday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m., he said.
The Suns have proposed a partnership with New Jersey-based Diamond Nation and at least one other Fredericksburg area investor in Fredericksburg to build a $30-million privately financed stadium. See story in the Herald-Mail.
