NEW YORK CITY-Democratic Mayoral candidate Christine Quinn says she would impose a living wage requirement to any city-subsidized development projects.
Quinn, who helped thwart a wide-ranging living wage bill as City Council Speaker, made the pronouncement during a debate among Democratic mayoral candidates on Tuesday. Speaker Quinn at first refused to bring a sweeping living wage bill to the floor of the Council and eventually negotiated a compromise bill that limited the scope of the legislation, according to Crain's New York Business.
"I helped lead the effort that got living wage and prevailing wage passed into law in this city and when I'm mayor I will expand living wage requirements to every dollar we spend in our Economic Development Corp.," Quinn said during the debate. She later added, "Let me be clear, when I'm mayor I will expand living wage to include all of EDC.” See story in Crain's New York Business.
