AUGUSTA, GA-Blanchard and Calhoun Commercial secured the approval for its luxury mixed-use project on Walton Way Extension here from Augusta planning commissioners on Wednesday.

The gated upscale apartment community called the Grand Oaks at Crane Creek will initially feature between 240 to 330 units, according to Blanchard and Calhoun Commercial President Mark Senn.

The Augusta-based developer requested the commission incorporate approximately 25 acres located behind 45 acres adjacent to Walton Way Extension that are already designated for multifamily use, according to the Augusta Chronicle.

The project, which will begin construction in early 2014, will also feature a clubhouse, pool and walking trails. Approximately 10 acres of the site fronting Walton Way is zoned for commercial use. No specific plans have been released for that parcel. See story in the Augusta Chronicle.
