NEW YORK CITY-Related Cos. intends to begin work on a pivotal deck at its Hudson Yards project in January that will thus enable the developer to finish the first half of the $20-billion project.

The platform is to be constructed over a section of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's West Side Rail Yard. The platform will then allow Related to break ground on its second tower building at the property, an 80-story building with an observation deck, according to Bloomberg News.

Related's timeline was revealed by Jay Cross, president of Related Hudson Yards, at a New York Building Congress forum held on Thursday. The developer plans to build 17 million square feet of space at Hudson Yards. See story at Bloomberg News.
