MIAMI-The controversial plan to redevelop the city's convention center district will be up to the voters tomorrow.
The electorate will have a clear choice between Miami Beach Commission candidates who are committed to the ambitious plan and those who want the project scaled down in cost and size.
Under the approved by Miami Beach Commissioners in July plan chosen, taxpayers would pay the $600 million developer South Beach ACE says it will cost to renovate the city-owned convention center. The public portion of the project would be paid for by an increase in hotel taxes that voters previously approved, land leases and county taxes, according to the Miami Herald.
