PHILADELPHIA-A grand jury has indicted contractor Griffin T. Campbell on murder charges in connection with the June 22nd building collapse here that killed six people and injured 13 others.
Campbell was indicted on six counts of third degree murder and other related offenses for his role in the building collapse at 22nd and Market streets. Campbell was also charged with six counts of involuntary manslaughter and 13 counts of recklessly endangering another person, along with causing catastrophe, risking catastrophe and criminal conspiracy, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The contractor turned himself in to Philadelphia police on Monday afternoon. William Hobson, an attorney representing Campbell, said Campbell will vigorously defend himself against all charges.
The grand jury's presentment claims the contractor put his own greed above safety by choosing to remove support beams and leaving a freestanding wall towering above the adjacent Salvation Army building and not demolishing from the top down as had been planned.
