BEL AIR, MD—With an industrial vacancy rate below 5%, Hartford County is reportedly looking to clear up issues involving about 200 acres in order to allow new industrial development.

Hartford County Director of Economic Development James C. Richardson says a landowner and developer is eyeing the possibility of building a total of 2 million square feet of industrial space. He would not identify the site or the firm proposing the venture, but notes a key issue with the property is highway access, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

“It's in an area that's got all of the entitlements except for state highway stuff,” Richardson says. “If we can get this worked out, I'd like to see something hopefully breaking ground this fall, but I don't know that we're going to make it with the highway issues.”

Harford County currently has two warehouse projects under construction—Liberty Property Trust's 945,720-square-foot distribution center for Clorox Corp. and Ryan Commercial LLC's 656,000-square-foot building for cosmetics retailer Sephora. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
