STERLING, VA—Home furniture design firm Belfort Furniture is looking to redesign its headquarters complex here with a new mixed-use commercial center and residential housing. The company has said that if its plans are not approved it might expand outside of Loudoun County.

The firm's plans for its 17-acre site include 65,000 square feet of new retail and service uses, an 8,420-square-foot mezzanine in its existing Belfort Furniture warehouse, and 43 townhomes, according to the Washington Business Journal.

In its application to Loudoun County, the company states that its plan “ensures that a stable, well-established/respected business which has contributed to the Loudoun County economy during the past 20-plus years will remain economically viable and will be able to serve current and future county residents."

If its plans do not garner the necessary municipal approvals, Michael Huber, Belfort Furniture's managing member, says that while there are no plans to close its Sterling location, "we would be looking to place other locations around the Beltway." He adds, "Our efforts would be going more outside the county." See story in the Washington Business Journal.
