UPPER MARLBORO, MD—The final vote by the Prince George's County Council on the $925-million MGM National Harbor casino project was postponed for a week because three Council members were absent at Monday's meeting.
The council has scheduled the final vote on the project's site plan for its meeting on Monday, July 21. MGM Resorts International needs the council's approval so that it can apply for various permits for the project to be built on a 23-acre parcel, according to the Washington Post.
MGM has already started site work on the project and has committed to invest $1 million in the county before the casino opens and another $400,000 annually to Prince George's County once the casino is in operation. Arthur Horne, an attorney representing the company, says if the council approves the project next week, MGM could start construction within a month.
