ALEXANDRIA, VA—One of the largest development projects in the city's pipeline is expected to shift into the formal approval process in short order. Abramsom Properties is proposing to build it's the Gateway mixed-use project at the former Jefferson Memorial Hospital site here.

The 695,000-square-foot development to be constructed at 4600 King St., will involve a 14-story, 405-unit apartment building above a ground-floor, 62,000-square-foot supermarket. The plans also call for a four-story, mixed-use building with 6,000 square feet of ground-floor retail topped by nearly 50 affordable apartments, and an eight-story, hotel of approximately 140 rooms, according to the Washington Business Journal.

“Everything is ready to go and we expect our approvals by the end of the year,” says Danny Abramson, co-founder of Alexandria, VA-based Abramsom Properties.

Abramsom is in contract with the Lazlo N. Tauber Foundation to acquire the land for the project and has identified a supermarket anchor, but would not release the identity of the grocer until a contract is signed. He adds that the hotel component of the project has drawn strong interest. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
