ARLINGTON, VA—One of the staples of this city's burgeoning tech sector is considering relocating operations to the NoMa section of Washington, DC.

Arlington County officials are scrambling trying to keep Opower, a publicly traded energy-saving software company, from leaving the area. The firm, which was praised by President Barack Obama in 2010 and has been a leader in promoting Arlington County's economy, is considering moving the company and its more than 200 headquarters employees to NoMa, behind Union Station, according to the Washington Post.

Company CEO and Founder Dan Yates says the company has decided that if it remains in Arlington tit would stay in its current building, at 1515 N Courthouse Road where it has two years remaining on its lease. If Opower moves to Washington, DC, it would likely be in the NoMa district. The firm has discussed possible incentives with district officials.

“What we like about NoMa is it's still up and coming but it's farther along than the ballpark area,” he says. “It's a little bit different. It's edgy. It's new.”

According to its website, in addition to its Arlington office, the firm has locations in San Francisco, London and Singapore and Tokyo. See story in the Washington Post.
